چکیده

Studies on the application of electropolishing (EP) of the ANL superconducting deflecting cavity have shown promising results. This cavity geometry is a squashed single-cell cavity with Y-end group waveguide as well as on-cell LOM damper. The cavity works at TM110-like deflecting mode, in which the iris between the cavity cell and the Y-end group is the highest magnetic field region. Before EP, the cavity had been chemically etched (BCP) several times. Forty-μm EP processing was performed on one Mark II prototype deflecting cavity at Fermilab. No mild baking was performed before the cavity vertical test. The test showed that the low-field Q had improved from 2×109 to 3×109 and the high-field Q-slope had been successfully removed. The quench limit was slightly improved from 106 mT to 113 mT. Fast T-mapping had detected a significant decrease of local temperature rise in the cavity iris. Optical inspection before EP found a lot of grooves around the iris, which might be related to the gas bubbles generated during BCP. This suggests that horizontal EP is a promising processing technique to remove the high-field Q-slope and improve the deflecting cavity performance.

Status of the Short-pulse X-ray Project at the Advanced Photon Source*

The Advanced Photon Source Upgrade (APS-U) Project at Argonne will include generation of short-pulse x-rays based on Zholents’ deflecting cavity scheme [1]. We have chosen superconducting (SC) cavities in order to have a continuous train of crabbed bunches and flexibility of operating modes. In collaboration with Jefferson Laboratory, we are prototyping and testing a number of single-cell defle...

Status of Rf Deflecting Cavity Design for the Generation of Short X-ray Pulses in the Advanced Photon Source Storage Ring

The Advanced Photon Source (APS) at Argonne National Laboratory is exploring the possibility of using radio frequency deflection to generate x-ray radiation pulses on the order of 1 pico-second (Delta t – 70%) or less [1]. This scheme is based on a proposal by A. Zholents et al. [2] that relies on manipulating the transverse momentum of the electrons in a bunch by using an rf deflecting cavity ...

The Relationship Between Acceptable Noise Level and Initial Acceptance of Hearing Aid

Introduction: The Acceptable Noise Level (ANL) evaluates the willingness of a listener to hear a continuous speech in the presence of background noise. ANL is related to some variables. Although many studies were accomplished on the relationship between ANL and hearing aid satisfaction, no study was found for the usage of ANL as the predictor of initial hearing aid acquisition. Therefore, the c...

Crab Cavity Development

The HL-LHC upgrade will use deflecting (or crab) cavities to compensate for geometric luminosity loss at low *  and non-zero crossing angle. A local scheme with crab cavity pairs across the IPs is used employing compact crab cavities at 400 MHz. Design of the cavities, the cryomodules and the RF system is well advanced. The LHC crab cavities will be validated initially with proton beam in the ...

Deflecting Forces for the Case of Multi Mode Beam - Rf Cavity Interaction in Linear Accelerators

Abstract The formulae for the deflecting rf forces have been derived for the train of charged bunches, traversing a rf cavity. These forces originate from the deflection action of non symmetrical modes excited by the misalined bunches, the infinite set of the cavity eigen modes being taken into account. Various dependencies are explored, including the effect of "mode saturation" and non lineari...
